Afrobeat is still king in African music, well at least in September on Mdundo. Out of the top ten artists on Mdundo for the month of September, eight of them are Afrobeat artists from Nigeria. This is further proof of the strength of Afrobeat all around Africa as the genre continues to make waves and grow even further outside the continent.
Nigeria is highly represented in the top 10 with 9 out of 10 artists hailing from the country, with Mercy Chinwo, a gospel artist, being the only non-afrobeat Nigerian artist on the list
Even with the Afrobeat domination, the top artist of September was Lucky Dube. The late South African artist is one the most popular artists on the platform and he receives millions of downloads on the platform across his entire catalogue.
