Music Royalties on Mdundo: How Artists Earn from Their Content

ree

Once you’ve signed up on Mdundo and uploaded your music, your fans can easily download your tracks, allowing your content to start generating value immediately. Mdundo earns revenue through advertisements on the platform and within the music files, similar to how traditional radio stations operate. Every six months, in January and July, artists receive their share of this revenue, calculated based on the number of downloads they’ve accumulated, ensuring that your earnings directly reflect your music’s popularity and listener engagement. At Mdundo.com, artists earn royalties through what we call Eligible Revenue, the income generated specifically from the monetization of artist content via advertising, licensing deals, and user subscriptions on our platform or approved distribution partners All eligible revenue earned by Mdundo is shared equally between Mdundo and the content providers. Payments are calculated on a 50:50 basis and are made directly to the uploader, regardless of any affiliations with Collective Management Organizations (CMOs). The share an artist receives is based on their contribution to total downloads on the platform so if an artist accounts for 1% of all downloads, they earn 1% of the 50% royalty pool. This method mirrors global industry standards used by major streaming services and radio stations. Because royalties depend on revenue and user activity, the payment per download may fluctuate. Rates increase when Mdundo earns more advertising revenue or when total downloads decrease, and they decrease when Mdundo earns less or when total downloads rise. This model ensures that royalties always reflect real market conditions, helping artists benefit directly from both strong content performance and a growing ecosystem of listeners.
