Other fan favorites emerged in local markets, such as Jay Melody in Kenya, King Saha in Uganda, Marioo in Tanzania, Makhadzi in South Africa, and rising stars like Black Sheriff, Kweku Smoke, and King Paluta representing Ghana’s vibrant scene. This year also welcomed a major new talent: Fido, crowned Mdundo’s Breakout Artist of the Year.
In terms of genres, listeners gravitated toward Gospel, AfroPop, Hip-Hop/Rap, Afrobeats, and Bongo, showcasing Africa’s powerful blend of tradition and innovation. The most downloaded tracks of 2025 further reflect this diversity, with classics like “One Love” and “Together As One” by Lucky Dube topping the charts, alongside hits like “See You Tonight” by Omega 256 x Cindy Sanyu and “Nepanka” by Alien Skin & Sandra NAXX capturing massive attention. Lucky Dube continued his dominance throughout the year as the most downloaded artist from January to July, as well as October and November.
