The Kenya Copyright Board (KECOBO) is the government agency responsible for the overall administration and enforcement of copyright and related rights in Kenya. Its mandate is to ensure that creators, including musicians, authors, and filmmakers, are protected under copyright law and can benefit fairly from their original work. KECOBO plays a key role in creating a safe and supportive environment for Kenya’s growing creative industry.
As part of its ongoing mission, KECOBO works closely with stakeholders to raise awareness about intellectual property rights and provide legal support to artists. This September, KECOBO is partnering with Mdundo.com, one of Africa’s leading music distribution platforms, to host a free legal clinic for artists in Kenya. This initiative aims to help artists better understand their rights, contracts, royalties, and how to protect their work.
The KECOBO x Mdundo Legal Clinic will take place on September 30th, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Nairobi Garage, Pinetree Plaza, Ngong Road, Nairobi. The session is open to all artists, producers, and creatives who want to learn more about copyright laws, legal best practices, and how to navigate the music industry with confidence.
During the clinic, attendees will have the opportunity to interact with copyright experts, ask questions, and receive free legal guidance on issues affecting their creative careers. This is a unique opportunity for Kenyan artists to gain practical knowledge and tools that can help them avoid exploitation, protect their content, and maximize their earnings.
KECOBO and Mdundo are committed to supporting the creative economy by empowering artists through education and access to resources. Whether you're an emerging musician or an experienced professional, this legal clinic is a step toward building a stronger, more informed creative community in Kenya.
