Celebrating Legends: King Saheed Osupa, the Reigning King of Fuji Music
Born Saheed Akorede Babatunde Okunola in Ajegunle, Lagos, King Saheed Osupa comes from true music royalty. His father was a wéré musician and a cousin to Fuji pioneer Ayinde Barrister, giving Osupa deep roots in the sound he would go on to define for a new generation.
Osupa began performing as a teenager in 1983 and released his debut album, Fuji Fa Disco, in 1992. His rise was cemented in 2008 when Fuji legend Sikiru Ayinde Barrister himself crowned him “King of Fuji Music,” a title he has carried with pride ever since while staying true to the traditional Fuji sound as the genre around him modernised.
Across his remarkable career, King Saheed Osupa has released more than 150 studio and live albums, including the standout 4-in-1 project Mr. Music. Beyond music, he added another milestone in 2023 by earning a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Ibadan.
Today, King Saheed Osupa is still performing and still holding the crown as one of Nigeria’s most celebrated Fuji icons. Experience the music of this living legend by streaming King Saheed Osupa now on Mdundo.com.
